In 1980 , an “ecology” section was set up, initially dealing with the purification of effluents from on-site mining exploration, then specialising in the chemical-physical treatment of industrial effluents using authorised mobile plants. Subsequently, its activity developed over the entire sludge treatment process , specialising in mechanical dehydration , chemical inertisation and transport, acquiring direct access to final landfills , thus closing the complete waste disposal cycle.
During the 1990s, the company developed its technical potential by obtaining increasingly broader authorisations for types of waste and annual treatable quantities. In particular, the company specialised in carrying out environmental reclamation with the authorisation to treat waste using mobile plants as well as its own considerable fleet of operating machinery.
In 1992 it acquired the waste treatment and storage platform in Caorso (PC), authorised initially for special waste and since ’98 also for special hazardous waste. With the acquisition of the Caorso platform , Furia specialised in the management of the main types of industrial waste such as slag, ash, chemical-physical sludge, polluted soil, sludge, as well as a considerable amount of other waste of industrial origin. To date, the platform is authorised for more than 1,000 waste identification catalogue codes for a total treatment quantity of more than 220,000 tonnes/year.

In 1993 the company adopted an internal quality system according to the procedures provided for by the UNI-EN 29002 standard.
In 1998 the company enrolled in the current National Register of Environmental Managers for the categories of hazardous and non-hazardous waste transport and the management of third-party disposal plants.

In June 2001 , the company obtained certifications of the integrated Quality-Environment-Safety management system according to UNI EN ISO 9001:2008; UNI EN ISO 14001:2004; BS OHSAS 18001:2007, renewing them periodically.
